Job Description


This position supports the organization’s national and local public relations (PR) strategies, key service lines and thought leadership priorities. This position is responsible for earning media coverage for Ascension Texas in the Austin area to support the market’s business priorities, advocacy objectives, thought leadership, and service lines. This position is a member and key contributor to the national PR team.


  • Collaborates with Ascension Texas Marketing/Communications team and national Public Relations team on communication planning, policies and practices, and development of public relations/media materials.

  • Researches, writes, edits and proofreads copy and other content consistent with approved key message and Associated Press style.

  • Focuses on implementing Ascension Texas’s thought leadership priorities.

  • Builds and maintains ongoing relationships with the Central Texas region’s media contacts.

  • Develops various media materials, such as press releases, media pitches, talking points, statements and other pieces; organizes media events, on-site media tours, and media interviews.

  • Prepares subject matter experts for media interviews.

  • Participates in PR editorial and event team meetings.

  • Pitches and places earned media.

  • Supports the development of public awareness and service line PR campaigns, major announcements, editorial placements, speaking opportunities and key award submissions.

  • Ensures consistent framing of messaging and refines core messaging in deliverables, supporting organizational consistency in all aspects of Ascension Texas’s communications.

  • Generates public awareness and measurable results from targeted campaigns.

  • Provides collaborative, strategic partnership to the national PR team.

  • Develops work plans to successfully achieve objectives and goals. Monitors, tracks and measures results; compiles and distributes data and reports.

  • Directly involved in day-to-day operations.



  • HS or Equivalent

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field, or combination of High School degree and related experience

  • Bachelor's degree with a major in marketing, PR, journalism, advertising, communication, English or related field preferred.

Work Experience:

  • Three years in the marketing and/or communications specialty area (Brand Marketing, Internal Communications or Public & Media Relations) preferred. Effective communicator capable of gaining the confidence and respect of peers and key stakeholders is required.

  • Minimum of three years as a working journalist or in media or public relations preferred.

  • Effective communicator capable of gaining the confidence and respect of peers and key stakeholders is required.

  • Social media, camera, and AV editing experience preferred.
