System Safety Engineer
Jacobs Technology is the advanced technology arm of Jacobs Engineering (NYSE:JEC), one of the largest engineering and technical service companies in the United States. Jacobs has partnered with NASA to support space flight programs for more than 40 years and held the predecessor Engineering and Science Contract (ESC) since 2005. We look forward to continuing that work as the prime contractor for the JSC Engineering, Technology, and Science (JETS) contract along with our eleven teammate companies to provide engineering, scientific and technical contract services at NASA's Johnson Space Center (Houston, TX). JETS provides products and technical services related to human operations in space through development and integration of a broad spectrum of engineering requirements. This includes human spacecraft flight and flight development products, human exploration mission planning for NASA, institution support services, and new technology development. Our long-term client relationship with NASA has led to a need for a System Safety Engineer.
The System Safety Engineer will:
Provide product and project safety expertise to Government furnished Flight Equipment projects.
Be an integral member of the Project Team for all phases of the project: from project kick-off and development (PDR, CDR, etc.) through product delivery for flight.
Develop the initial safety assessment (Initial Assessment of Criticality), Hazard Analysis, Failure Modes and Effects Analysis, and the Safety Data Package for the project, and represents the project at all Safety Reviews and is the project safety expert.
Provide deliverables per the project schedule and providing high quality documentation are the priorities for the SSE.
Support safety document updates for modifications to existing flight products, and supports projects on other safety activities as necessary.
Perform other duties as required.

BS degree in engineering from an accredited engineering school and five (5) to thirteen (13) years of related engineering experience, or an MS degree from an accredited engineering school and four (4) years to eleven (11) years of related experience, or Ph.D. from an accredited engineering school and zero (0) to eight (8) years of direct engineering experience.
Ability to work on multiple projects, within matrix team environments, and to demanding schedules is required; examples of capabilities may be requested during interview process.
Must meet eligibility requirements to receive and maintain a NASA security clearance.
Knowledge of Hazard reports within the ISS Hazard System (IHS) Database.
Proficiency with MS Office.
Prefer degree in ME, EE, or Aerospace Safety. System Safety experience in the aerospace industry is a plus, but not required.

Generally an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on task.
Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of time). May require lifting and carrying up to 10 lbs (5% of time).

Regular attendance in accordance with established work schedule is critical. Ability to work outside normal schedule and adjust schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements when required.
