Jacobs has partnered with NASA to support space flight programs for more than 40 years and held the predecessor Engineering and Science Contract (ESC) since 2005. We look forward to continuing that work as the prime contractor for the JSC Engineering, Technology, and Science (JETS) contract along with our eleven teammate companies to provide engineering, scientific and technical contract services at NASA's Johnson Space Center (Houston, TX). JETS provides products and technical services related to human operations in space through development and integration of a broad spectrum of engineering requirements. This includes human spacecraft flight and flight development products, human exploration mission planning for NASA, institution support services, and new technology development. Our long-term client relationship with NASA has led to a need for a Software Developer.

The Software Developer will:

  • Provide solutions to technology challenges for wide range of cutting edge systems and environments such as NASA’s Orion spacecraft simulator labs and ISS astronaut exercise equipment labs.

  • Perform simulation installation, set up and maintenance.

  • Perform simulation load tool installation and maintenance (haf, shoploader, flyzer, etc).

  • Deploy flight software and workspaces to Jenkins by creation of PARTE workspaces.

  • Install tooling into workspaces.

  • Keep the simulation lab up to date with each simulator release and patch as they are delivered by the simulation developer (releases every three months with one or two patches in between).

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Education/Experience/Skills:

  • BS degree in a computer related field from an accredited college or university.

  • Strong proficiency and experience within the last year with the following areas:

  • Linux.

  • C .

  • Scripting languages such as Python.

  • Ability to successfully operate in a highly dynamic engineering environment with a team of engineers and software developers working to rapidly develop software on a compressed schedule.

  • Excellent communication skills.

  • Experience developing software for systems in one or more of the following specialty areas:

  • Algorithms.

  • User Interface/User Experience Design.

  • Real-Time Execution.

  • Continuous Integration.

  • Unit and Integration Testing.

  • Communication and Middleware Frameworks.

  • Logical Operators and Bit Manipulation.

  • Device Drivers.

Preferences:

  • Experience with the following:

  • Implementing real-time safety-critical software.

  • Build tools.

  • Networking.

  • Bluetooth.

  • System and software configuration management.

  • Automation of system maintenance and reporting via scripting.

  • Hardware and software integration.

  • ISS flight software development processes and tools.

  • Orion spacecraft software development tool chain familiarity.

  • LDAP user authentication mechanisms familiarity.

  • Perforce version control tool familiarity.

  • Orion SOCRRATES and ANTARES simulation familiarity.

  • Simics simulation environment familiarity.

  • Familiarity with the OS/Comet satellite telemetry and commanding system.

  • Data acquisition and processing.

  • Software project management and cost estimation.

  • Software Development Life Cycle familiarity.

Work Environment

Generally an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on task.

Physical Requirements

Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of time). May require lifting and carrying up to 10 lbs (5% of time).
